2022 Global Money Week Celebration
The Global Money Week (GMW) is a global money awareness celebration that takes place in March every year. The celebration of GMW consists of a series of activities aimed at inspiring children and youth to learn about money, saving, creating livelihoods, gaining employment, and becoming an entrepreneur.
- The CBN collaborated with the banker’s Committee Sub-Committee on Financial Literacy and Public Enlightenment (FLPE) and other Stakeholders to reach out to students in various public schools across the 36 States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory to conduct the School Mentoring programme amongst others based on the 2023 Global Money theme “plan your money, plant your future.”
- The CBN conducted school mentoring programme in eight schools including the Governor’s and Deputy Governor’s financial system stability schools in Lagos and Abuja across the six Geo-Political Zones in Nigeria to inculcate savings culture in the pupils. The schools covered include:

- The Global Money Week celebration featured students drawn from different schools from the 6 Geopolitical Zones of Nigeria.
- In an Essay Competition on the theme for the year. Students were tasked to be creative in writing high-quality essays to assess their understanding of the theme “Plan your Money, Plant your Future” and to win amazing prizes. A total of 104 Essays were received and judged based on the following criteria: Critical Thinking, Content, Structure, Style and formatting. Eight (8) Winning Essays were shortlisted for the Grand Finale of the Global Money Week Celebration which held on Tuesday, 4th April 2023.
- To crown the successful celebration of the 2023 Global Money Week (GMW), a Grand Finale of the Essay competition was held virtually on Tuesday, 4th April 2023. The Finale started at 11:30 am prompt with a welcome address by the Director of Consumer Protection, Mrs. Rashida Monguno and an opening remark by the Executive Director Junior Achievement Nigeria, Mrs. Foluso Gbadamosi. A Five (5) Panel of Judges drawn from various Financial Institutions were introduced after which the Eight (8) winning Essays were read by the writers and allotted marks based on defined criteria. The winner of the Essay Competition was announced by the chair of the panel of judges Dr. Paul Oluikpe (Head, Financial Inclusion Delivery Unit, CBN.
